I know this topic appears elsewhere; I am re-asking because there hasn't been progress that I can find anywhere here or on the web. Boot Camp using Leopard, the X1600 driver does not work for the Macbook Pro 17' Core 2 Duo, 2.33Ghz. There are complaints of the problem, but no resolutions to be found. Will the beta x1600 driver work in the 10.5 version of Boot Camp (v2?)? - Does anyone know where that driver can be found for download? - Are there any workarounds that anyone knows of?
Nov 13, 2013 - checking my activity monitor, this process never responds for any Mac game that I'm playing (Day of Defeat, Left 4 dead II, etc). Serious lag on. Gameoverlayui (not responding : steam for mac.
A generic driver perhaps? Sorry if this is re-asking - I wouldn't unless I was at my ends. I have been waiting for a fix for this, I'm beginning to believe it's never going to happen. My screen flickers like there's no tomorrrow in Vista and The Mac Genius told me that there is nothing that can be done. He said that Apple will only support boot camp itself, not what's installed on it. I said, 'But it's Apple's X1600 Driver, shouldn't they support that?
He shrugged and said there was nothing he could do. So, I found a post much like the one above that had me attempt to hack a fireGL driver into running in Vista on my x1600. It worked in that Vista says I am now running a MackbookPro FireGL V5200 when I look in Device manager, but I still have the flicker issue.
If I choose certain shades of bluish backgrounds, it makes it look as if the whole screen has dot crawl. I have tried Power Strip and countless other hopeful remedies with no luck. I am by no means a novice Mac or PC user, but this problem is making me feel like one. Apple, please fix this!
Thanks, I love apple and I love Macs, but my PC friends are laughing at the disco show that my awsome 17' display turns into every time I boot into Vista. By the way, they don't laugh when I boot into Leopard because they know Vista is craptacular.; ) Please help. Message was edited by: MacDaddyMacDaddy Message was edited by: MacDaddyMacDaddy. This is VERY interesting.
I have a Mac Book Pro from April 2006 (X1600 chipset) and I can run in Windows XP running Star Wars Galaxies for literally hours with no problems. My issue is that occasionally Windows XP will not boot! After the long Windows XP boot screen, the screen goes blank, backlight turns off,.
When it does boot, the backlight comes back on, the cursor shows up and then the desktop. On rare occasion, Windows just stays on the boot screen - forever, and I end up pressing the power button 'till the machine turns off. You're not alone.
I have a similar machine (MacBook Pro 17' 2.16 GHz). I have a bluish tint on my display and to compound the problem, since the driver is defective, I cannot project my display on any projector. I was able to do so when Boot Camp was in beta mode, but not since I installed Leopard. It's disappointing that no one from Apple has responded to this post. And it is indicative of how much of a neophyte Apple is in trying to enter the true business community. MacBook's with Intel processors are a great start, but not if Apple doesn't quickly figure out how to support the Windows environment that it states it can with Boot Camp. If Apple does not plan to take this seriously, then they should really be refunding the purchase price of the MacBook Pro and the software for those customers that bought it specifically because of the promise Apple made to support a Windows environment.
And I would think that every customer who bought the machine specifically for Boot Camp has a great class action suit in the works. Step up and take some responsibility Apple! You're not dealing in a child's world anymore. These are real issues from people that do work other than graphic design! I too am having this issue that was not a problem before Leopard (was fine under Tiger with Boot Camp Beta). I have a 17' MBP 2.33GHz with ATI X1600 graphics, Leopard and Windows XP Pro 32-bit in Boot Camp.

In Boot Camp XP, common gray and blue backgrounds or any image with a fine matrix pattern or gradient flicker at a high frequency like it can't decide what color to display in each pixel. This is obviously a display driver issue since the same programs look just fine running under Parallels (linked to the same Boot Camp install). The same programs also look fine running in Boot Camp on my Mac Pro with ATI HD 2600 XT.

Most of the applications I want to use in Boot Camp XP have these flickering gray backgrounds, so I fear I am in danger of inducing a seizure! This renders my Boot Camp unusable for me. Most PC software I can run fine under Parallels, but the high-performance 3D graphics apps require Boot Camp to run smoothly. Hopefully Apple will acknowledge this issue and fix the driver soon.Jeff Message was edited by: JeffRutan Message was edited by: JeffRutan. Apple Footer.
