I switched from pc to mac and I was wondering if skyrim will be available on the mac. I would rather purchase the game for a computer for the mods instead of the xbox 360. So I was wondering if the game will be available for the mac? I haven't seen any concrete information on the availability of the software for the mac. I don't want to install windows on my mac so don't bring that up please. I like the mac so I don't want to change it to play a game. However, it would be nice to play on the computer for the mods.

I exerienced Oblivion on the 360 but I'm looking to get invlolved in mods this time around. So, does anyone know for sure about a mac version? Posts: 3354 Joined: Mon Apr 09, 2007 11:23 pm. Come on, we don't need Mac ports. Boot camp is essentially, booting up Windows. Buy a legitimate Windows copy, and you can play every game on the planet.
WHY is this asked on all game forums??? Because users of the mac platform, just like users of any platform ever in existence, would like it if software developers would substantiate their platform by developing for it?
Not saying Bethesda should pump out a mac version, but still, obvious answer is kinda obvious. Posts: 3362 Joined: Fri Dec 08, 2006 2:00 pm. Come on, we don't need Mac ports. Boot camp is essentially, booting up Windows.

As an aside, most Mac 'ports' these days are just the PC files stuck inside a Transgaming Cider 'wrapper' that lets them run under OS X. Obviously, there's some coding work that needs to be done for each game to make it work right, but it is possible. (I suspect most of the 'use either version!' Games on Mac Steam are this way. And I've run City of Heroes & Dragon Age like that.) But, yeah.
Bootcamp works. Posts: 3410 Joined: Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:59 pm. If you wanted to play games, why would you buy a mac? I don't take a trip to Greece and except them to speak Chinese.
And back when Windows was still in infancy, I'd say if you wanted to do anything at all significant with your device, why would you use Windows instead of something like a unix-based OS? It's not like Windows is guaranteed to forever-be the end-all-be-all for gaming. Is it right now? But the whole point of wanting developers to develop for your platform is so that your platform will get software support. Windows with software and user-support in general was once anologously where Mac is with gaming now. Posts: 3458 Joined: Mon Oct 22, 2007 5:30 pm. Hmm, oh well.
I guess it's back to the 360 for Skyrim. Dissapointing though, as the mac experience is great. I guess it's something about the design of the imac that is appealing. On a pc I feel so boxed in when compared to working/gaming on my mac. Dragon Age is available on the mac. Maybe down the road they will add a mac port.
I'm just curious how you feel 'boxed in' when you work and game on a PC? I'm not trying to start a system war, but I've always felt Apple boxes you in by having limited hardware support (only running legally on proprietary HW), limited upgradeability, abandoned support for older processors, limited OS customization, and general exclusive/restrictive attitude (if you want to use an iPod/Phone/Pad you have to use iTunes, if you want to use MacOS you have to use Apple hardware, if you want to develop for the iPhone you have to use MacOS, etc). I'm not flaming/trolling but it seems a little silly to say PC 'boxes you in' more than a Mac. Posts: 3416 Joined: Sat Mar 03, 2007 3:34 pm. It's not proprietary, it's licensed. They have checks for every hardware manufacturer to ensure a 100% no-conflict market. The Nvidia cards for the Mac isn't manufactured by Apple. Upgradeability is the same as on other PC's, apart from the narrower selection. Mac OS is not any less customizable than Win7.
Also, you can very well create iPhone apps in Java on a Windows PC. Posts: 3434 Joined: Sat Aug 25, 2007 12:30 pm. Except there are absolutely zero benefits to playing games on a Mac over a PC. Macs are more expensive for less performance, only have a slim picking of a few games,. Well its not in its infancy. Windows supports gaming, hence games are made for it. Not so for Macs. Most people only buy a Mac cause they have an iPod. Posts: 3454 Joined: Sat Jul 21, 2007 3:28 am.
Why would that influence your decision to buy a mac at all??? I have an ipod and it integrates just fine with my windows pc. Itunes is a fairly well designed robust app that works just great in windows (hasn't crashed once, no compatibility issues, upgrades seamlessly). ITunes on windows is good? Ho, good one, you almost got me there! As for the question - it'd be nice, but there simply isn't much demand, likely in part to the ease of dual booting with windows (and let's face it - what's the cost of a windows license compared to the apple tax?), and at least partially due to the lack of gaming-class graphics cards in lower end products (Which is because there are no games to use them, so there's no need for them, so they're not there, so there's no games for them, so there's no.). It'd be nice to be less platform-locked, but it doesn't show much sign of happening.

Hardware in a Mac is nearly identical to hardware in a 'real' Windows system, with the main difference being the branding and the OS that runs on it. Just like my Linux machine has all the same hardware as a Windows machine, but the OS makes it very different. When running Bootcamp, you have to shut down the Mac OS, and reboot the machine into a Windows environment.

You are no longer running Mac OS, and cannot run any Mac apps until you reboot again (and then you can't run anything under Bootcamp until rebooting again, etc). This is to say nothing about also having to buy Windows and maintain/patch/upgrade it. It's the same hardware, but it may as well be two different systems. And about the only real option to play skyrim with mods If there isn't a native Mac port (I would hope there are Mac and Linux ports, myself), then Wine may be an option, too. It's free, and integrates the app somewhat into the Mac environment - it's not perfect, though, and it may take a bit before it works correctly, but it saves you from having to buy Windows and use Bootcamp. IIRC, Gix has a Mac, and uses Wine (or one of its commercial counterparts, Crossover or Cedega) for his Morrowind and Oblivion LPs.
